Maximizing Protection from Ultraviolet Radiation Hazards: Assessing the Risks; Finding Solutions

چکیده
IntroductIon Sunlight is the primary source of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) to which humans are exposed. Although a portion of the sun’s UVR is absorbed by the ozone layer of the atmosphere, significant UVR penetrates the ozone to strike the surface of the earth. For most people, the total amount of UVR received (the cumulative dose) increases linearly over time.1 Documentation that cumulative sunlight exposure causes irreversible eye damage has been part of the medical literature for more than 100 years, but public awareness of the need to protect eyes from sunlight has lagged far behind. And new findings about the nature of solar UVR hazards underscore the importance of continuous UVR protection, which for eyeglass wearers is possible only if every pair incorporates effective UVR protection. For example, we now know that a significant portion of the solar UVR incident on the cornea comes from indirect sources, including UVR striking from the side rather than the front (called “albedo”) and UVR reflected by

Background: Although ionizing radiation is very important in diagnostic and treatment of many diseases, the hazards of this radiation are considerable and irrefutable. One of the main stages in radiation protection is knowledge about radiation dose in radiological investigation. The aim of this study was to determine the physicians' knowledge in radiological examinations. Materials and Methods:...
متن کاملComparison of Ultraviolet Protection Factor of Pure Cotton and Cotton Coated with Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles using the Electrospinning Method with Two Ultraviolet-C Generators
Introduction: Protection against harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation (UV) is measured under Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) scale. The utilization of protective clothing is the best way to deal with the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. The purpose of this study was to compare the ultraviolet ray protective factor of pure cotton and cotton coated with ti...
متن کاملInvestigation on the Removal of Malachite Green from Aqueous Solutions Using Photocatalysis of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles
Background & objectives: Malachite green color has been extensively used in aquaculture industry around the world. The drainage of colored wastewater containing malachite green to aquatic ecosystems has created very serious risks for human health and the environment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the removal of green malachite from aqueous solutions using photocatalysis of titani...
متن کاملBioaerosols, Noise, and Ultraviolet Radiation Exposures for Municipal Solid Waste Handlers
Few studies have investigated the occupational hazards of municipal solid waste workers, particularly in developing countries. Resultantly these workers are currently exposed to unknown and unabated occupational hazards that may endanger their health. We determined municipal solid waste workers' work related hazards and associated adverse health endpoints. A multifaceted approach was utilised c...
